Clemson rallies to beat Duke in ACC Tournament opener

GREENSBORO, N.C. —Tyler Krieger and Steven Duggar each drove in two runs, and Clemson beat Duke 5-3 on Wednesday in its Atlantic Coast Conference baseball tournament opener. The fifth-seeded Tigers (35-22) will play top-seeded Miami on Thursday night after fourth-seeded Duke (32-24) faces ninth-seeded Georgia Tech.
Duke had runners on first and third in the ninth after Ryan Deitrich's two-out RBI single pulled the Blue Devils within two, but reliever Matt Campbell got Mike Rosenfeld's fly out to end it. Chris Okey and Weston Wilson hit one-out singles in Clemson's fifth, and Krieger made it 3-2 with his two-run double to right field off Michael Matuella (1-3). Duggar added a two-run single in the ninth off Andrew Istler. Garrett Boulware pulled Clemson to 2-1 with an RBI single in the fourth. Deitrich also hit a two-run homer in the second. Matthew Crownover (8-5) struck out nine in 7 2-3 innings for Clemson.
