Howard’s Rock Vandalized Again, Pedestal And Case Damaged

Update: Clemson has released an official statement on the matter, confirming that there was a vandalism attempt, but the rock itself was not damaged. They have removed it from the grounds.
Earlier: For whatever reason, Clemson’s famed Howard’s Rock has been the target of vandalism a number of times in its nearly 50-year stay in Death Valley. Less than two years ago, a giant chunk of it was broken off, and an 18-year-old Tigers fan was arrested in the aftermath. It looks like another attempt was made Tuesday night.
According to a number of reports, including one by TigerNet.com’s David Hood, someone attempted to vandalize Howard’s Rock Tuesday night, but was unable to break through the protective casing around it. It’s also reported that the pedestal and case were both damaged. There is an active police investigation regarding the matter.
There’s no word as to whether there is video of the incident. We’ll keep you updated.
