Clemson bowl ticket sales 'tracking well'
By: Scott Keepfer, greenvillenews.com

CLEMSON – Clemson has sold "a little over" 4,000 tickets for the upcoming Russell Athletic Bowl, which is good news for the athletic department's bottom line.

"We are anticipating being above the threshold of our obligation," said Athletics Department spokeman Joe Galbraith.

Clemson received an allotment of 8,911 tickets for the Dec. 29 bowl game against Oklahoma in Orlando, Florida. The school's "obligation" is half the value of those tickets.

"We're tracking well," Galbraith said.

This is the first year of new agreements between the Atlantic Coast Conference and the bowls, and some of the changes are expected to prove favorable when it comes to ticket-sale and other financial concerns.

Namely, the league has lowered ticket obligations while being more consistent with travel allowances.

In the past, the ACC doled out travel money to schools based on the specific bowl destination and the distance traveled. Under the new agreement, every ACC bowl team – excepting any team included in the College Football Playoff – will receive $1.1 million for travel.

"That number has fluctuated in the past," Galbraith said. "Now it's all the same. If Duke is playing in Charlotte, they get the same as Miami playing in the Pinstripe (in New York)."

The new bowl agreements also have resulted in improved seating options for a school's fans.

"That has been changed a bit," Galbraith said. "There is a lot more sideline seating available. We've had a good response with premium seating."

Also, on Tuesday Clemson announced its "Tickets for Troops" program, which gives fans an opportunity to donate bowl tickets to military personnel in the Central Florida area.

"Clemson has a rich tradition of supporting the military," said Mike Money, Assistant Athletic Director for Marketing. "We understand that not all fans are able to make the trip to Orlando and this is a great opportunity to support our military and the Clemson football program."

Fans may purchase a bowl ticket for as little as $75, and the athletic department will donate it to Orlando-area military personnel for the game. Fans wishing to participate can contact the Clemson ticket office at 1-800-CLEMSON or visit www.clemsontigers.com

Tickets prices for the game range from $60 for terrace seating to $245 for indoor club seating.

Parking passes for the game are sold separately through the Russell Athletic Bowl (1-866-330-7275).

Clemson also is selling tickets for the "One Clemson Tailgate" pregame celebration, which is set the Clemson tent at Fan Fest at the Citrus Bowl Stadium from 2:30-5:30 on game day. Tickets are $25 per person and include food and beverages, including beer and wine.

From what I see, a lot of people are going even though it is on a Monday. Wish I could go, but have to work.
