Restoring another helmet. Spiller?
« on: April 01, 2017, 04:25:26 PM »
So I came across this helmet and decided to track down who wore it. I know it is a true Clemson helmet due to who refurbished it and it has the school code on the inside that they use and was refurbished for 2008. There are a lot of details on this helmet that connect it to Spiller.

First is the fact that this is an older air xp with the older inside padding. Not many players wore this style helmet with this padding as Schutt changed it to the more circular padding with blue padding on the jaw pads like the inner padding.

Secondly, the helmet is a medium. If you look at how the facemask is attached, the clip on the side is towards the top, and if it was a large or XL, the clip would be at the very bottom and would not over part of the ear hole. Not many players wore a medium as most do wear a large or XL.

The clips are dated from 2006 to 2009. The facemask is dated 2007.

Another detail is the front bumper. It is not a regular air xp front bumper as those are rounded on the edges and this one has the older style used on the older Pro Air helmets they made.

The rear bumper and the location and style of the Warning decal and the American flag decal. Marks on the rear bumper are a close match. Disregard the paw awards as I am in the middle of restoring the helmet to its former glory.

Thanks to Jacki D., she messaged Spiller about the helmet and said he wore one just like it and could possibly be one he wore, but could not confirm 100%, but was close.

All of this points towards a helmet worn by him at some point during his career at Clemson.

Is that cat hair stuck in padding?
