Clelin Ferrell Commits to Clemson over Virginia Tech
By: Tim Thomas, fightinggobbler.com

The Virginia Tech Hokies are looking to bring many of the top in-state prospects to Blacksburg and the Hokies have already gotten 3-star DL Harry Lewis of Phoebus High School in Hampton, Virginia as one of their five commits. One of the Hokies’ top targets has been 4-star prospect Clelin Ferrell from Benedictine High School in Richmond, Virginia. Yesterday, Ferrell announced his commitment to a major ACC program.

Unfortunately, Ferrell did not commit to Virginia Tech.

Clelin Ferrell made the decision to head out of state and join the Clemson Tigers instead ofstaying in-state to play for the Hokies. This was a disappointing loss for the Hokies and Ferrell is the latest in-state prospect to make the decision to play his college football outside of Virginia. The Hokies have missed out the last couple of season on some of the top prospects in Virginia which has been disappointing though the Hokies have still had some strong classes.

In general, Clemson made a strong run to get Ferrell and the Hokies still have plenty of defensive end targets including some that are even better than Clelin Ferrell.

The Hokies’ top defensive end targets are 5-star defensive end Josh Sweat, 4-star defensive end Jalen Dalton, and 4-star defensive end Darrell Taylor. Right now, the Hokies are one of the top contenders for Sweat and Dalton while the Hokies are currently the frontrunners for Darrell Taylor. Taylor and Sweat are two of the top in-state prospects while Dalton is one of South Carolina’s top prospects and would be a chance to also get some revenge at Clemson. The Hokies have a chance to get all three of these players but should definitely get at least one of these top defensive end prospects.

It’s definitely a disappointment not to get Clelin Ferrell but Hokie Nation has no reason to be concerned at all with the talented defensive ends the Hokies have good chances to get.

This is big for us. We needed some high talent on the defensive side committed.
