CHARLOTTE – Ranked by Rivals as a four-star guard, Sean Pollard picked up an invite to The Opening after working as a left tackle at last weekend’s event in Charlotte.
Whichever position he ends up playing at Clemson, Pollard wouldn’t mind having another highly-ranked prospect lined up next to him, so he’s doing his part to make sure that his class will have as much star-power as the Tigers’ 2015 offensive line haul.
“My philosophy is, I think, to be the best, you’ve got to get the best,” Pollard said. “I think those are our main targets, so why not try to go get them for our team?”
He added, “I want to be the best. I want to have people in my o-line room to make me work harder. And, obviously, I want to help Clemson get a national championship. I think it starts in the o-line room.”
Clark Yarbrough, John Simpson, Parker Boudreaux and Landon Dickerson are four of the top targets Pollard is recruiting.
“All the guys I’m talking to are high-class guys,” Pollard said. “They already know, whenever they come into whatever school they’re going to — hopefully it’s Clemson — they’re going to work their tails off. They’re going to make he class before us and us even better.”
Clemson’s class sits just outside the top 10 in the 247 and Scout team rankings, but occupies the No. 9 overall spot, according to Rivals.
“It’s crazy. We have a chance to have a top 10 recruiting class. If we keep getting the top-caliber athletes like we are, it’s going to be easy to have that,” Pollard said.
